As I wrote it on 24 June 2014 and some additional insights I learned in the last 4 years. Still learning!

1. Before the end of each year, I pick 3 countries/cities I want to see.
I might not have the money, I might not have time, it might be difficult to get a visa... I don't care! I am picking!!! So, looking at the next 12 months, list the top 3 countries or cities you have been meaning to see and why do you want to visit each?
Picture
Remember, to dream is free. Making this list, will not cost you anything, but it helps you indelibly mark it into your memory. It's at the back of your mind and it will inspire you without you even noticing it.
  • Japan, I want to see Tokyo
  • Korea, I want to zip line to Nami Island
  • Thailand, I want to see River Kwai (yeah right, really that's why you want to see Thailand? 🤭😁)
2. Build a rough "must-do". List your top 3 things in each places.
If you ever push through, you have the top 3 to aim for, everything else will be a bonus. That way, you don't feel stressed into jamming your day with so many things to do or places to see. You are on vacation, you are not at work!
  • New York. See the observatory of the Empire State Building, Skate at The Rockefeller Centre in front of Prometheus, eat NY bagels with cream cheese and jam!
Picture
  • Paris. Climb the Eiffel (or ride the elevator if you are with your special someone. We witnessed a lover's quarrel over the torture of climbing that many steps!), See point zero in front of Notre Dame cathedral, people watch while sitting for hours in a cafe
  • Czech Republic. Visit Kutna Hora and its bone church, see the preserved town of Krumlov, cross Charles Bridge in the wee hours (before the mob of tourists swallow you)

THE KAYON RESORT UBUD

Om Swasti Astu. It means "Peace and greetings from God" in Balinese.

The Kayon Resort. A destination on its own. I sound like a loser but really, I booked this hotel and built the trip around it.

I checked Kayon out of a recommendation and I immediately fell in love with it. I just thought it has that tranquil charm anyone from the concrete jungle will be in awe.

It was supposed to be a solo trip. Read a book, perhaps a trip to the market, but really, the date of all dates was between me and Mother Nature. I booked Kayon in 2016 for a 2017 trip but had to rebook for this year. Then, late last year, I thought, how awesome will it be if Joseph come with me to this exquisite destination? He replied with the usual, “yes, sure why not” with the same enthusiasm as how one will answer the question, “do you want to have broccoli with your steak?”

Joseph gets excited with adventure trips, scuba diving, skiing, trekking, desert safari but not a photo of a serene looking hotel that offers quiet time for reflection. It’s not his thing but he will indulge me, coz he wuv me.

He knows, I MUST SEE THE WORLD. My obsession with traveling is as much as how strongly I feel towards munching KFC every other week if not every week. (Puh-leese, do not start me with the diet and health talk. You do you, I do me). Since I got bitten by the travel bug in 2014, I have not been able to not think of traveling.

My husband, is more than happy for me to see the world, with or without him. If he can, he tags along to keep me safe and happy. Our children love to travel too but they have school and one is much too young to be traveling to un-surveyed places. We have a once a year family travel, somewhere family-friendly or foodie-friendly

JOURNEY TO PRAGUE (THROWBACK)

This was the very first travel we had as a family, just exploring. No relatives to visit, not our hometown, just traveled purely because we want to see the world.

This trip was a milestone for us, like for real, the very first time I was bitten by a travel bug. I have not been cured since and it has infected the rest of my family, much to my delight.

Alex was only 12, Jason was 8 and we did not have JD yet. :)

This was when The Walkaroos was born. Our very first Walkaroos shot was taken from our AirBnB home in Old Town Prague.

-----
We flew via KLM and so the journey was pretty long with a pit stop in Amsterdam but it was all worth it. We enjoyed the adventure and we look forward to a quickie tour of Amsterdam on our way back.

PANCAKE HEAVEN

First recipe to migrate from Ninya Aninias.

Yes, it's so convenient to just buy a box of ready-to-mix pancakes but it is sooooo satisfying to know you made something from scratch and your love ones asking for more!

My kids love every morsel of these giant fluffy babies and even my hubby eats breakfast when there are pancakes, a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence.

The best part of this recipe is that it's so wickedly easy and you can serve it with so many delicious toppings, sauces and syrups.

Ingredients:
3/4 cup mik
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons melted butter
butter knows (to grease your pan)

*you need 2 medium size bowls

Serves 4 pancake

TREKKUP

I always get asked how did I come to know TREKKUP and why I think it's the best thing ever after the discovery of chocolates.

2017. I wanted to do something different, travel with more authenticity, more back door attraction, less on the cliches, less attention on the unnecessary, perhaps not after what is comfortable but more on the experience.

I saw one of their posts regarding a Sudan trip. Something about the Tree of Life looking like that tree in the Avatar movie. There was something about having proper encounter with Tribesmen. It really looks like one of those unique, once-in-a-lifetime kind of trip. I cannot remember why I didn't sign up but perhaps because the trip was intimidating for an adventure-newbie like me and I didn't have any more vacation days from work. I did not sign up for the trip but did join the group.

I remember receiving announcements of trips after trips each coming weekend, admiring the descriptions and dreaming of being there, wherever they will be.

Then one day, I saw a trip to experience Sunrise at Adam's Peak, Sri Lanka!

    RECORDS OF AMUSEMENT

    Author

We used to flip through the pages of glossy magazines or colourful webpages, drool and gawk at gorgeous places we only dreamed of seeing. We used to daydream over the idea of food we might never get to taste. Wondered how each destination feels.

Then we stopped and took the plunge,,, we thought, "what's the worst that could happen?"

We stopped dreaming and started living.

Join The Walkaroos and take the plunge with us with every discovery, with every destination, with every bite!
